WILLIAM: LANGUAGE SPECIALIST

William is a language specialist, managing English language learning courses in Oxford and several European countries. He's also grammar module editor at Learning English, an on-line resource.

Working in a teaching and training environment, he's always found it easier to talk than to type. Until recently, he used a hand-held recorder and a secretary, but companies often had to wait for their students' assessments whilst several hundred recordings on three recorders were prepared.

Now, for most of his work, he uses speech recognition software on a notebook computer. However, typically, the sound system picks up electronic noise from other computers, low-voltage desk lights, its own intermittent disk activity, and general radiated circuit interference.

Microphones can't reduce, cancel, or reject, electronic noise inside the computer. The USB Headset Adapter bypasses the sound system, and routes audio directly, via the USB interface, to and from the processor.

He also records classroom discussions and comprehension texts, saving them on a flash memory stick, so that students can replay them in any other room or at home.
